Guest Summaries:
Miller discussed his call of Barry Bonds 756th home run. He deconstructed the call as well as his thoughts about it in a historical context and today. He also discussed the surprise moment with Hank Aaron’s message for Barry Bonds. There is also a nice long cut with Miller talking about Dave Flemming, so if he comes on today it would be good to play that portion for Dave on air. The segment is worthy of replay. Wilbon discussed Barry Bonds including the fact he is “not sure how to feel about the record.” He also discussed how the value and integrity of numbers has been compromised by the steroid era and how he felt Commissioner Bud Selig handled his attendance dilemma poorly. Carey discussed the Atlanta Braves including last night’s win at Shea Stadium as well as Mark Teixeira’s impact on the roster, Buddy Carlyle’s success story with the club, and Atlanta’s chances for the playoffs. Schulman discussed Barry Bonds moment last night including his thoughts on the Commissioner’s press releases, Barry Bonds the player and person, and where the San Francisco Giants go from here as an organization. Nightengale discussed his nearly two months on the road covering Barry Bonds pursuit of Hank Aaron’s home run record including the aftermath, Bonds call from President George Bush today, and his future. Kepner discussed the New York Yankees including last night’s situation with Alex Rodriguez, Roger Clemens, and the Blue Jays. He also discussed the turnover on the Yankees’ roster most notably the bullpen including the arrival of Joba Chamberlain and the origin of his name.
